A romantic trip to China turns into a lunar nightmare for a pair of happy newlyweds when their taxi driver ditches them in a remote village, and the locals offer them up as sacrifices for the menacing moon creatures that return to Earth annually to replenish their ranks. According to Chinese legend, the dead return to Earth on the seventh month of the lunar year, when the moon glows full in the night sky. America-born Yul (Tim Chiou) and his new wife Melissa (Amy Smart) had just arrived in China to meet Yul's family when their idyllic getaway takes a sudden turn for the worse. When night falls and their tour guide leaves them stranded in a darkened, boarded-up village, Yul and Amy quickly realize that this wasn't a planned stop. Once a year, the lunar creatures return to Earth in search of a sacrifice. Lesbian assassins at war provide the focus for this outrageous Hong Kong martial arts film that is already becoming a cult classic. Tinam is the cop on the case searching for the person who keeps killing Hong Kong men and cutting off their genitals. Tinam is on the edge of a breakdown after he accidently shot his brother three months before. When nervous, the cop throws up. Tinam meets Kitty, an obsessive woman, in a unisex hair salon. Unfortunately for Tinam, Kitty takes a shine to him. Kitty, after shooting up a gangster's office to avenge her father's death, is taken to the home of hit-woman Sister Cindy, a charmer who uses rapists for martial arts practice dummies. Sister Cindy becomes Kitty's mentor. It is soon discovered the killer is the lesbian Princess, Cindy's former student. Princess is contracted to kill her teacher and she succeeds. This sequel to the popular Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle centers on the exploits of David Sloan (Sasha Mitchell) the younger brother of the two fighters (Van Damme and Dennis Alexio) who died in the first installment. As this episode begins, David has given up competition and is running a kickboxing school for underprivileged urban kids. His life changes abruptly when the villainous fight manager who murdered his brother shows up and forces him back into the ring. Fortunately, David's Zen master shows up for spiritual and moral support. The ensuing fight scenes are quite bloody and violent. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this comedy, when he returns from a prolonged ocean voyage, a sailor discovers that his wife has left and has rented their apartment to another woman. This new tenant is an "old maid" by local standards and is somewhat set in her ways. He has also been left with the care of his daughter. Despite his desire to strike out on his own, he must stay in his old apartment in order to take care of his daughter. The next blow comes when, in the divorce proceedings, it looks like he will lose custody of his daughter. An exceptional and at times disturbing drama, Lunatics is among the top-grossing films of all time in Hong Kong. The somewhat fact-based tale centers on a social worker's attempts to help the mentally ill people who furtively live and work on the teeming city streets. As the story opens, Fung the social worker is calming a confused patient who has been threatening patrons of the local marketplace with a meat cleaver. Later, an investigative reporter assigned to write a critical report of an apparently failing health system, Yip, catches up to the busy Fung and begins following him on his rounds. It is an eventful day and Yip sees that Fung does much good for the outcast and the dispossessed. For Fung it is just another day until he must face down a desperate husband who is making a final, bloody stand in a kindergarten to keep from losing custody of his young son. After he kills a teacher, Fung has no recourse but to kill him. Towards the end of the day, the meat-cleaver man is back at the marketplace. Again, Fung comes to the rescue, but unfortunately, a photographer's flash frightens the deranged fellow and he murders Fung. The story ends on a brighter note when Yip decides to become a social worker just like Fung. Many of Hong Kong's most popular actors make cameo appearances throughout the story. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
