Philanthropist Carleton Gage (Everett Glass) hires Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) to alter his will so that the orphanage he supports will remain open. Unfortunately, Gage lapses into a coma just before the will can be finalized. As Gage's life ebbs away, two of his beneficiaries, his cousin George (Jacques Aubuchon) and his employee Ernest Demming (John Morley) demand that the orphanage be shut down--while Gage's sister-in-law Joane Proctor (Jan Shepard) just as insists that the place will stay in business. By and by, Demming is murdered, and Joane is charged with the crime--meaning that Perry will have to redirect his energies to save Joane from being convicted. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Taking a midnight stroll on a London bridge, starving artist Ralph Terrance (Herbert Patterson) makes the acquaintance of a beautiful but strange young girl named Lilith (Gloria Saunders). Despite the girl's curiously fatalistic view of life, Ralph agrees to meet her again on several successive nights, just as Big Ben strikes 12. Slowly and inexorably, Ben is drawn into a life of crime by the predatory Lilith--who seems determined to live up to the reputation of her Biblical namesake, the legendary "storm demon" who destroyed everything she touched. Though included in the One Step Beyond syndication package, this episode was actually filmed for the earlier TV anthology Stars Over Hollywood, and was first telecast November 8, 1950. Paladin (Richard Boone) receives an urgent missive from "Sheriff M.J. Smuggley", who asks the soldier-of-fortune to help purge a faraway town of a plethora of hired gunmen. Upon arrival in town, Paladin is surprised to learn that Sheriff Smuggley is actually a feisty middle-aged woman named Maude (Jeanette Nolan). Despite her ferocious demeanor, Maude is unable to persuade the locals to take her seriously in her efforts to clean up the town, so Paladin champions her cause--and as usual puts his own life on the line in the process. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

An Indian chief (Anthony Caruso) whose son has been sentenced to be executed by the Army seeks out the help of Paladin (Richard Boone). The chief does not want his son released, but merely to make certain that the boy is afforded the proper tribal burial rites. Swimsuit manufacturer Wally Dunbar (John Lupton) is none too happy when his new summer line of bikinis is pirated after the design sketches are stolen. It gets worse when Dunbar's girlfriend Kitty Wynne (Terry Huntingdon) is charged with the murder of Dunbar's top designer Rick Stassi (Stephan Bekassy), with Lt. Tragg (Ray Collins) offering as motive the fact that Stassi was systematically blackmailing Kitty. Boris Karloff amiably walks through his undemanding starring role in Voodoo Island. Lensed in Hawaii, the film casts Karloff as Phillip Knight, a professional skeptic who enjoys skewering those who believe in the supernatural. Accompanied by his secretary, Sara (Beverly Adams), Knight arrives on a tiny Pacific island to disprove claims that a voodoo curse has invested itself in the community. After several horrible murders, however, it looks as though there really is voodoo activity in the region. Characters essential to the action are Elisha Cook Jr. as a zombie-fied petty thief, and a rather surly carnivorous plant! James Mitchell stars as a gunslinger-turned-parson in The Peacemaker. Arriving in a hostile western town, Rev. Terrall Butler (Mitchell) intends to win over the townsfolk with faith rather than force. His religiosity is immediately put to the test when Butler tries to mediate a feud between the local ranchers and farmers. He then must face down the vicious gunmen hired by railroad mogul Gray Arnett (Herbert Patterson), who intends to lay his tracks through the territory despite the protests of the farmers.
