Rudi (Levin Kress) is a 17-year-old lost in the fantasy world of Vienna. Every woman looks like Brigitte Bardot to him, and he and his pal Manfred (Fritz Karl) decide to travel to St. Tropez to offer protection for the sex goddess. In this comedy, the inhabitants of a small Bavarian factory town have fallen on hard times because the factory owners got fed up with catering to the local union. Now the factory has been sold to a group of Chinese, who plan to break up the assembly line and ship the whole thing back to China. The former shop steward and his buddy, who wants to steal one crucial item of machinery, are asked to supervise the Chinese workers' efforts. The bulk of the satire here is aimed at the stodgy Bavarians and their distrust of these strangers. With his usual cast of oddball characters and over two hours of polemics and shenanigans, director Herbert Achternbusch is at it again in Heilt Hitler!. The main thrust of this 1986 opus is focused on some questionable cultural traits of Bavaria, and, as might be expected in an Achternbusch work, a large dose of sexual situations, parodies, and innuendo. In this sometimes amusing view of post-war life in Germany from the perspective of little Marianne (Saskia Tyroller), "Mr. Peace" (Peter Fonda) is idolized because like other American soldiers, he is fast and loose with handing out chewing gum and peppermints to the children. When Marianne hears the village fire-and-brimstone preacher exhort the congregation about how sinners are doomed, she imagines all sorts of things that might befall "Mr. Peace." In this drama, a gigantic agricultural corporation makes a huge increase in the price of milk but doesn't pass a penny of their increased profits on to the farmers, who are additionally hurt by reduced demand. In protest, the farmers threaten to start their own dairy cooperative, which prompts the corporation to give them stock shares. Despite the film's English title Knife in the Head, Hoffman (Bruno Ganz), a scientist, is shot in the head by the police while he is trying to pick up his wife from a political rally. Upon awakening, Hoffman finds that he has lost all memory of who he is and why the police were after him. At first, he is also paralyzed, unable to move or care for himself. Essentially, Der Hauptdarstellar tells the story of Pepe, a lower-class boy (Michael Schweiger) who is exploited by an experimental filmmaker for his own purposes, giving him the idea that his appearance in a leading role in a film will substantially change his agonizing life into something more glamorous and bearable. When he discovers that he will immediately return to the obscurity and abuse which was his lot beforehand, he begins a desperate campaign to get the attention of the filmmaker and his crew.
