Irvin Kershner directed this comedy-drama about one man's struggle with relationships and himself. Brooks (George Segal) is a middle-aged commercial artist who is at a personal and professional crossroads; he wants to take a stab at a career in fine art, but he can barely land enough assignments to support himself as it is. And while his marriage to Selma (Eva Marie Saint) is starting to collapse, his mistress Grace (Janis Young) suggests that she would like a relationship of greater permanence with him. Hoping to land an important commission from Lepridon (Sterling Hayden), a powerful business mogul, Brooks attends a party at an exclusive private club, but after a few cocktails too many, Brooks gets into a screaming match with one of the club's leaders. Brooks is depressed, figuring that he's blown what could have been a major career opportunity, when word travels through the grapevine that Lepridon was amused and impressed by Brooks' dressing-down of the club's topkick and is ready to give him the job. Brooks is elated, but he wants to keep his good news a secret for the time being; in a celebratory mood, he goes to a party where Selma, Grace, and a number of his friends are also in attendance. Brooks is approached by Nelly (Nancy Phillips), the wife of his neighbor Will (David F. Doyle); Nelly wants Brooks to join her for a quickie, and he eagerly agrees, not realizing that the children's playroom where they've chosen to meet is monitored by a closed-circuit TV camera, with the other party-goers an audience for their lovemaking. Loving garnered many enthusiastic reviews and became something of a cult item among film buffs in the 1970s; Sherry Lansing, who would later become a powerful producer and studio president, appears in a small role as Susan. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A few episodes ago, Herman (Fred Gwynne) was being pestered by a practical-joking coworker named Clyde (Chet Stratton). Now, apparently, Clyde has reformed to the extent that Herman is willing to help his timid colleague woo and win a girl named Clara (Joan Staley). In "Cyrano de Bergerac" fashion, Herman writes some love letters to Clara on Clyde's behalf--leading Lily (Yvonne DeCarlo) to the spectacularly inaccurate conclusion that Herman is cheating on her! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Now aspiring to be a hard-boiled private detective, Jethro opens an office in Drysdale's bank building. He then installs all sorts of "double-naught spy" gadgetry, most of which backfires in a hilarious fashion (Best gag: the "two-way" mirror.) Less hilarious is a gang of clever crooks, who decide to use Jethro as their unwitting accomplice in a bank robbery. Donald Curtis, Eileen O'Neill, and James Seay appear in the supporting cast. The Catholic League of Decency gave Billy Wilder's Kiss Me, Stupid! a "condemned" rating. The Moral Majority charged the picture with debauchery and movie theaters across the nation discontinued its run. The bed-trick comedy had America's panties tied in a knot; one could not imagine a story so distasteful. Dean Martin is Dino, a Las Vegas crooner, alcoholic, and celebrity playboy. Dino requires women like oxygen -- a companionless night leaves him with a headache. Ray Walston is Orville, a provincial piano teacher, aspiring songwriter, and jealous husband. Orville violently obsesses over his wife Zelda's (Felicia Farr) fidelity -- any man she encounters becomes his sworn enemy. When a chance detour brings Dino to Orville's hometown of Climax, NV, it is the perfect opportunity for the piano teacher and his songwriting partner, Barney (Cliff Osmond), to pitch their tunes. Yet, Orville predictably fears the possible combination of Dino's libido with Zelda's childhood crush on the singer. Before the two can meet, Orville deceitfully bullies Zelda out of their house and Barney hires local roadhouse prostitute Polly the Pistol (Kim Novak) to pose as Orville's wife. Zelda turns to drink for solace, ending up at the exact bar where Polly plies her trade and, eventually, in the call girl's empty trailer. By the next morning, Orville is with Polly and Dino (looking for a prostitute) finds his way to Zelda -- and husband, wife, hooker, and Barney will all reap the benefits of infidelity. This tale may be tasteless, but Kiss Me, Stupid! is now a cable favorite. Its modern rating? PG. ~ Aubry Anne D'Arminio, All Movie Guide

A Mexican honeymoon turns into a nightmare when Laura Needham (Eileen O'Neill), the young wife of tourist Mark Needham (Peter Graves), is murdered. The police suspect that the crime was committed by wealthy businessman Theodore Bond (Albert Salmi), but they lack the evidence to make an arrest. Taking matters into his own hands, Mark vows to bring the elusive Bond to justice -- but it is another tourist couple, Louise and Alex Trevor (Sarah Marshall, Ed Nelson), who finish what Mark has started. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
