Another Survivor clone from producer Mark Burnett, the CBS reality series Pirate Master was clearly inspired by the extremely popular "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise. Set during its first season on the Caribbean island of Dominica, the series featured sixteen contestants role-playing as 18th century pirates, replete with colorful costumes, archaic weaponry and "arr-matey" dialogue. For 33 days, the contestants sailed on a 179-foot pirate ship in search of a million-dollar treasure which (it says here) was buried by one "Captain Steel." Every episode had its quota of clues both blatant and hidden, and there were also physical and mental challenges to keep thinks lively. Inasmuch as everyone was supposed to be a buccaneer, such intangibles as "honesty" and "fair play" were forced to walk the plank: Indeed, on each episode the players were encouraged--nay, required--to lie, cheat and steal in their quest for treasure. In true pirate fashion, a different contestant was elected as temporary captain each week, and it was up to him (or her) to banish those players who'd been voted off the show, using a prop cutlass to cast those unfortunates adrift. Unlike the somewhat more spontaneous Survivor, the various challenges shown herein were carefully scripted, and most of the contestants seemed to be culled from the ranks of showbiz professionals. There's been a change of management for criminals-turned-espionage agents Cassie (Natasha Henstridge), D.D. (Kristen Miller) and Shane (Natashia Phillips) as the seriocomic action series She Spies enters its second season. Jack Wilde, the ladies' chucklesome former supervisor at the Bureau of Allied Intelligence Tactics (B.A.I.T.), is gone, replaced by the more sobersided--and more sinister--Quentin Cross (Cameron Daddo). Also, our heroines are now supplied with their high-tech hardware by technogeek Duncan Baleu (Jamie Iglehart), an MIT dropout who has trouble hiding his moony-eyed adoration for the She Spies. Finally, "The Chairman" the much-talked-about but hitherto unseen top man at B.A.I.T., finally appears in the form of actor Bruce Boxleitner)--only to be summarily killed off a few episodes later! In this season's escapades, the girls must protect an abrasive pop star from kidnappers; they go undercover at a dating service; they are abducted by terrorists along with the entire cast and crew of a "reality" TV series; Cassie "celebrates" her birthday by trying to remove a bomb necklace that has been welded around her neck; Shane makes moves indicating that she will soon betray her cohorts, and is later injected with a drug that wipes out her memory; and all three ladies find themselves marooned on a desert island--with virtually nothing to wear, of course! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A minor Bay Area earthquake yields only one fatality: San Francisco philanthropist Henry Rutherford (Ross Petty), who was apparently killed by a falling object. A longtime friend of the Rutherford family, Sharona (Bitty Schram) brings Monk (Tony Shalhoub) along to pay a condolence call to Henry's young widow Christina (Janine Theriault). But as a result of this "friendly" drop-in, Monk begins obsessively dogging Christina's trail, certain that she has committed murder. Megan Follows, who literally grew up before the viewers' eyes as star of the Canadian TV series Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, returns to the role of Lucy Maud Montgomery's plucky Canadian lass Anne Shirley in this four-hour TV miniseries. In the second decade of the 20th century, all grown up and a professional schoolteacher, Anne returns to Prince Edward Island after the death of her mentor, Marilla Cutherbert (played by the late Coleen Dewhurst in stock-footage flashbacks). Soon thereafter, Anne heads to New York City, intending to marry her physician fiancé, Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie), and, hopefully, to find success as an author. Alas, Anne's first manuscript is stolen by charming scoundral, Jack Garrison Jr. (Cameron Daddo), while Gilbert is defeated by the internal politicking and red tape of a big-city hospital. The couple is about to relocate to their native Canada when WWI breaks out, whereupon Gilbert dutifully signs up for military service. When word arrives that Gilbert is missing in action, Anne courageously heads off to wartorn France in hopes of finding her husband -- only to become mixed up in an espionage plot that also involves the redoubtable Jack Garrison. An affair turns murderous when a student becomes obsessed in this made-for-television drama. Susan Lucci stars as Vivian Conrad, the philandering and spoiled wife of a businessman (Barry Bostwick). After having a fling with a college student named Mark Templeton (Patrick Van Horn), Vivian becomes the focus of his dangerous obsession. Based on a novel by Mary Grant Bruce, the Australian miniseries Golden Fiddles was all about the Balfours, a modern family living in what used to be known as genteel poverty. All this changed when Mrs. Anne Balfour (Kate Nelligan) fell heir to millions. Naturally, this reversal of fortune had both positive and negative effects upon Anne, her husband Walter (John Bach), and their four impressionable children. First time director/screenwriter Antonio Negret details the frightening trend of kidnapping in Colombia with this tense tale of a young photographer who is abducted and held for ransom as his desperate parents scramble to raise the money that could save their child's life. Jose Gutierrez (Roberto Urbina) is a Colombian photographer in his early twenties who had come to America in order to pursue an education. Upon returning to his homeland, Jose is greeted by his good friends Jaime (Andres Toro), Pedro (Roberto Cano), and Luiza (America Ferrera. In the following days, Luiza attempts to show Jose just how much beauty Colombia truly has to offer. Despite the undeniable beauty of the land, however, Colombia holds a hidden danger that many fail to see until it's too late. Unfortunately for Jose, the night he realizes his love for Luiza and his homeland is the very same night that vicious kidnapping ringleader Manuel (Carlos Valencia) decides to strike. Now, realizing that their son's fate relies solely on the speed with which the ransom can be delivered, Jose's parents Marta (Alejandra Borrero) and Carlos (Tony Plana) hire an American "Kidnap and Ransom" company led by the experienced John (William Atherton) and his partners Victor (Cameron Daddo) and Charlie (David Sutcliffe) to negotiate with the quick-tempered Manuel. When Marta and Carlos' insurance company denies the claim and John attempts to reason with the increasingly erratic kidnapper, Victor begins to fear that time is running out and rounds up a team of special ops soldiers to search for Jose by helicopter. Paul Johansson's The Incredible Mrs. Richie stars Gena Rowlands as the title character. The film stars Kevin Zegers as Charlie Proud, a young man on the path to juvenile delinquency. Having had enough of Charlie's troublemaking, school principal Mr. Dewitt issues the boy an ultimatum. Charlie must begin working for Mrs. Richie or be expelled from the school.
