Arguably the most successful program ever to emerge from New Zealand network television, The Tribe was set several years after a mysterious virus wiped out the entire adult population of the Earth. The only humans left were those aged 18 and under, who, in order to survive, formed their own small tribes, most of them predatory and violent in nature. The series focused on a tribal group comprised of basically good kids who roamed the empty streets, decaying office buildings, and deserted shopping malls in search of food, clothing, and the necessary technology to stay alive. Such vicious rival gangs as the Demon Dogs and the Locusts regularly pounced upon the characters whom the audience cared about, and there was never any forewarning as to who would still be standing at the end of each episode. Not unexpectedly, several of the young actors on The Tribe proved to be extremely popular with teen and preteen viewers, though this did not in any way prevent the demise of several "likable" characters if the scripts so demanded. Debuting in New Zealand on April 24, 1999, The Tribe was originally telecast two times per week, with each half-hour episode picking up where the previous one left off. The program went on to air in the U.S. via the MoviePlex cable service. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A man meets a woman who is the image of his late wife, which leads him to make many of the same mistakes over again in this drama. Shortly after the death of Katherine Mansfield, an author from New Zealand, her husband and editor John Middleton-Murray (John Gielgud) oversees the posthumous publication of several works that belatedly bring her fame and respect around the world. Thirty-three years after Katherine's passing, John travels to France (where Katherine died after contracting tuberculosis while traveling) to supervise the publication of a new collection of Katherine's journals and letters. While in Europe, John meets a young woman named Marie Taylor (Jane Birkin); she bears a striking resemblance to the late Katherine, and she also was born in New Zealand. As Jon and Marie get to know each other, Marie discovers just how much she has in common with Katherine -- and just how much was wrong with her relationship with John. Leave All Fair also features Simon Ward and Feodor Atkine. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Grant Tilly stars as Colin, a fortyish New Zealand schoolteacher. Colin is promoted to principal, which normally would be cause for celebration. Unfortunately, the teacher is undergoing several midlife crises, not least of which is his obsession with gorgeous fellow teacher Judy (Donna Akersten). At a dinner party hosted by Colin and his blase wife Elizabeth (Dorothy McKegg), the truth is painfully--and hilariously--brought to the forefront. Middle Age Spread is based on a popular play by New Zealand author Roger Hall. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
