In this romantic drama, popular action hero Valentin Trujillo plays Pedro, a young seminarian who, instead of being ordained directly to the diaconate and priesthood, is sent to his turbulent home to test his vows for a year. In addition to confrontations with local bullies which require him to make use of his fists, Pedro faces temptation in two forms: the conscienceless lust of the ranch boss' new wife, and his tender love for the boss' daughter, a love which the two have shared (chastely) since childhood. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Thinking he has been abandoned, the boy joins a gang of similarly independent children. Meanwhile, Pedro is released from jail but has developed a very keen sense of injustice, which leads him into many conflicts. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Based on the song Mack the Knife, the very popular Rubén Blades song Pedro Navajas was the inspiration for a very popular Mexican movie taking the song name as its title, about a pimp and prostitute whose love/hate relationship resulted in their mutual destruction. In this sequel, their son develops into a defender of women. Raised in the U.S., the lad comes to Mexico when he hears his mother has died and attempts to look for his father. He is shocked to discover that he, too, has died. He is motivated to learn how to use a switchblade with uncanny skill, and earns for himself the sobriquet "Navajas," or "Blades." ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

In the U.S.-made films starring Charles Bronson, he is invariably an innocent and ordinary man who is forced by circumstances into fighting back against brutal thugs and official indifference. Many Mexican-made movies starring Eduardo Yanez cover much the same territory. In the story, Roca (Duran) is blithely making plans for his upcoming marriage and has gone to consult with his father about something. He discovers that his father, a banker, has been turning a blind (but knowledgeable) eye to Mafia doings for many years. He was willing to do this until the mob got involved in the drug trade, and now he must find some way to disappear. As it happens, the gangs get wind of the situation, and both men must go into hiding. When the Mafia kills the father, the son embarks on a one-man war. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

In Central America, the peasants are nearly all "Indios," or people whose cultural values are those of indigenous people (rather than European or Spanish). Since the landowning and propertied classes abuse them horribly, these same ruling-class types live in perpetual fear of a bloody uprising. As a result, they suppress and abuse the peasants even more. Ironically, for the most part these peaceable people only want to be left alone. Those who do want to foment revolution have virtually no weapons and few allies to help them. In this action/adventure movie, based on a true incident, a group of Guatemalan peasants who have sought refuge in Mexico are sought out by Guatemalan death squads, and those who aren't tortured and killed are taken away in captivity. The hero in the story is a Mexican hunter whose family is mistakenly included in the raid and who teams up with a few of the survivors to win his family back and take revenge. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
