Highly unusual in that it was intended as a prequel to another film's sequel, this entry in the Lee Rock series depicts events occurring before 1991's Lee Rock II, but after the events in the first film. The story centers on Sergeant Lam Kung (well-known film producer Charles Heung) and his demotion to the police department's juvenile crimes unit for arresting the wrong person, a man involved in a kickback scheme with Lam's superiors. Lam does his best in his new job, but continues to get in trouble by harassing the delinquent teenagers of wealthy and influential parents. One such protected criminal is Sam Chow, a vicious drug-dealing hoodlum who seems to operate with a free hand because of his parents' status. The troubled young center of the film is Teddy Pak (Leslie Cheung), who runs into trouble but has a heart of gold. He also has a deadbeat mother whom he must constantly save from being executed by loan sharks when she fails to repay her debts. The 1950s-style melodrama comes to a head as Sam's gang attacks Teddy's young girlfriend and murders another girl, leading Teddy to be framed for the crime unless Sgt. Lam can clear his name. A good-looking but ultimately minor addition to the series, Arrest the Restless co-stars Vivian Chow, Deanie Yip, and Paul Chun. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

An exceptional and at times disturbing drama, Lunatics is among the top-grossing films of all time in Hong Kong. The somewhat fact-based tale centers on a social worker's attempts to help the mentally ill people who furtively live and work on the teeming city streets. As the story opens, Fung the social worker is calming a confused patient who has been threatening patrons of the local marketplace with a meat cleaver. Later, an investigative reporter assigned to write a critical report of an apparently failing health system, Yip, catches up to the busy Fung and begins following him on his rounds. It is an eventful day and Yip sees that Fung does much good for the outcast and the dispossessed. For Fung it is just another day until he must face down a desperate husband who is making a final, bloody stand in a kindergarten to keep from losing custody of his young son. After he kills a teacher, Fung has no recourse but to kill him. Towards the end of the day, the meat-cleaver man is back at the marketplace. Again, Fung comes to the rescue, but unfortunately, a photographer's flash frightens the deranged fellow and he murders Fung. The story ends on a brighter note when Yip decides to become a social worker just like Fung. Many of Hong Kong's most popular actors make cameo appearances throughout the story. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this above-average drama of a hooker's life in the early '60s, Sui Mei (Pat Ha) shares a sampan with a friend in a run-down sector of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. In order to survive, she ends up working the customers at a bar in the red light district of the city. At the same time, she meets and falls in love with a half-American Chinese looking for his long-gone G.I. father. Sui Mei's life seems to go downhill from there, since this new relationship leads to a series of misfortunes. Later, setting up as a Madam herself, Sui Mei is about to encounter more violent obstacles to her "success." In the meantime, the seamier side of 1960s Hong Kong is colorfully painted in images and songs. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
