An entertaining children's animated feature from Japanese director Yasuhiro Yamaguchi, this is a visually pleasing tale about virtue and avarice. When a willful little queen requests a bouquet of snowdrop flowers for New Year's Day, everyone listens. She is going to offer a reward for the flowers. A greedy woman sends the stepdaughter she does not like into the cold forest to hunt for flowers, knowing full well the impossibility of the task. The poor little girl is saved from freezing to death by the kind spirits of the Twelve Months, who miraculously create spring all around her. So she is able to bring the bouquet to the little queen -- but then others want a share of the action too. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
