This Canadian thriller features a cute little kid who kills. Connie and Linda give birth simultaneously in the same hospital. A mix up with the babies occur. Linda, after the baby, Adam, hits her, feels something is wrong. Indeed, the babe's real mother is a homicidal maniac and her illness seems to be genetic. His parents really love him, but they are concerned. They should be. It is not long before bodies are dropping like flies in the house. The parents hire Clive, a special ed. tutor, to teach Adam to speak. Detective Atwater becomes involved after he begins to suspect that little Adam is behind the mayhem. His mother is inclined to agree. Eventually the mix-up is discovered and Linda confronts Connie, who is chained up in prison. This low-key Canadian thriller stars Rod Steiger as Myron Hatch, a deranged gynecologist who has an unhealthy obsession with his late mother's memory. After Hatch puts his family home up for sale and moves into the adjacent house, a yuppie couple, Mary and John Westhill (Linda Kozlowski and Ron Lea), set their sights on the property. Hatch's latent mania is unleashed the moment he sees Mary -- a dead ringer for his late mother -- and his obsession with her begins. His less-than-subtle attempts to maneuver himself into her life are nearly thwarted by John's fears of losing his job, and Hatch resorts to murder to keep Mary near him. Despite slick production values and some clever Hitchcockian touches, there is little to distinguish The Neighbor from formulaic made-for-TV fare. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

Backstab an erotic, mystery thriller made in Canada, and directed by Jim Kaufman, is the story of an architect Cliff Murphy (James Brolin), who spends the night with a beautiful woman only to find his murdered boss next to him in bed. Cliff is framed for the murder, and he must prove his innocence. This average thriller, with a lackluster performance by James Brolin never really takes off. The pace is too leisurely and the courtroom finale and plot twists are not convincing. The cast also includes Meg Foster who gives a convincing performance and some beautiful color photography by Rodney Gibbons. Despite some good moments and good production values, Backstab fails to either thrill or entertain. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

Martial Law is a no-brainer action flick starring Steven McQueen, the son of the late, great Steve McQueen. Buddy cop duo Sean Thompson and Billie Black are on the trail of a killer whose signature weapon is a punch that stops the heart. The bad guy, played by David Carradine, also runs a number of illicit businesses, including trafficking in drugs. Things get personal when Sean realizes his little brother has fallen under the killer's sway, and hot when Sean realizes the feisty Billie might be falling for him. The film runs a predictable course as the two close in on the killer, rescue the little brother, defeat the evil henchmen, and finally capture the bad guy. Its formulaic story aside, Martial Law is an interesting film for its blending of the early-'90s hysteria around serial killers with the equally prevalent hysteria around gangs and urban youth. ~ Brian Whitener, Rovi

John Garfieldesque leading man Robert Forster plays a cop in The Banker. The title character is above-suspicion financier Duncan Regehr, whom Forster suspects of being a serial killer of prostitutes. Such is the banker's power that Forster is threatened with unemployment, or death, or both if he acts upon his suspicions. The detective is forced to use the "give him enough rope" ploy-and nearly ends up with his own neck in the noose. Old favorites Richard Roundtree, Leif Garrett, Jeff Conaway, and E. J. Peaker dot the supporting cast of this contemporary Jack-the-Ripper chiller. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In this slasher film, the exuberant young participants upon a party-line, a fad during the '80s in which young people called a special number and talked to many others in hopes of making a love connection, have no idea that there are two serial killers in their midst. Fortunately, a veteran police captain and the new DA have teamed up to find the killers before many more people die horrible deaths. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

The stage is set for a series of confrontations when photographer Mark Jefferson (Tom Eplin) agrees to help his friend Roger (John Mayall) defend his night club against a handful of organized crime figures. Mark has an added incentive for becoming involved as his ex-girlfriend Carol (Cheri Cameron Newell) sings at the club. But the gangsters are willing to use mayhem and murder in order to take over Roger's business. It appears that the petty mobsters are out to sell illegal weapons to anyone who wants them, especially L.A.'s youth, instead of using the club as a front for a prostitution ring as Roger suspects. Soon Mark and his trusty motorcycle have their work cut out for them. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

The thin storyline for this film is that three young women hope to gain a foothold in the acting profession, so they perform nude in front of the window of the disk jockey (Mad Man Jack played by Al Music) who is running a contest that would launch their careers. Along with many songs by a wide variety of groups -- from The Police to Blondie -- are crowds of young women cheerleading, doing aerobics, hang gliding, wind-surfing, and performing any number of physical feats. Other than music and nubile women in sporting events, the film has little to say and was never released theatrically. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
