Together, they attempt and even succeed at a series of daring robberies, thanks more to their persistence than to any skill on their part. Meant to be farcical but with comedy that somehow falls between the cracks, this horror spoof starts off with inept real estate agent Fracchia (Paolo Villaggio) trying to redeem his job. Fracchia has to save his hide by selling something within three days, and his only client is a hard-nosed cuss named Filini (Gigi Reder) whose limit is $3,000, tops. Unable to buy a Port-a-Potty on those terms, Fracchia gets a deal on a castle in Transylvania and off the duo go to inspect the premises. In this understated tale of love and its convolutions, Arturo (Italian comic Enrico Montesano) is an introverted sort who oversees the programs for a flourishing private TV station. Once active in the 1968 student demonstrations, Arturo's interests have changed a little as he accumulates the material possessions that set him off as successful. Then one day his old buddy Mike (Dan Doby) shows up on his doorstep and turns Arturo's life around. Mike is a millionaire, but that did not keep him from losing his lady love Marion (Rochelle Redfield), and he is heartbroken. The real-life tragedies wrought by organized crime are mirrored in this fast-paced, suspense-filled action thriller by Damiano Damiani about Mario (Michele Placido), a young man from a Sicilian family who runs a pizza place in Brooklyn. All seems normal until Mario is called to Palermo by the Mafia, and his role as a hitman is revealed. On the way to his assassination job, Mario stops by his impoverished family's home and cunningly tries to manipulate his brother Michele (Mark Chase) into joining him. Unlike Mario, Mark has an extreme aversion to killing anything, not even the colt in a field that his brother wants him to "practice" on. But the love of Michele's young life, Cecilia (Simona Cavallario), a 14-year-old teen forced into prostitution by her mother, needs to be saved from her degrading existence -- and so Michele is vulnerable to making some quick cash against his better judgment. The results of his decision and Mario's hit are not the standard gore and violence otherwise seen in action thrillers, but a more human and humane look at the real effects of murder on the innocent, and the not so innocent. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
