Based on an Edgar Wallace mystery, this puzzler centers on the attempts of a crook who goes to great lengths to steal another's fortune. It begins as an unjustly incarcerated heiress finishes a prison sentence. The crook wants to steal her father's money and so tries to convince the ailing tycoon that his own lover is really the rich man's daughter; the old fellow is not so easily gulled. In desperation, the crook kidnaps the real heiress in an attempt to force her to marry him. Strip Tease Murder is the exception to the rule that "If it's British, it's gotta be classy." John Hewer stars as the owner of a strip joint whose girl friend is executed for murder. Hewer is sure that the poor girl was innocent, so he does a little belated detective work himself. Third-billed Jean Muir is not the blacklisted American actress of the same name. When John Preston (Christopher Lee) comes out of nowhere to settle in Deanbridge, he rises quickly in the town's small circle of leaders and meets Sally, the daughter of a leading family. He asks her to marry him, but then he begins to have repeating nightmares about a passionate blonde blackmailer. He consults the local doctor (Alexander Knox), who decides that Preston is unconsciously suppressing events from his past and should try to recover his memory before he gets married. This crime drama is made up of two different tales of murder gone awry. In the first episode, an angry man plans a murder/suicide to protect his daughter from an extortionist. In the other story, a vengeful doctor hypnotizes his wife's unsuspecting lover and suggests that he break into her room late one night. The doctor hopes that his wife will be so frightened that she will kill her lover. Hollywood's Danziger brothers dashed off the British The Count of Twelve in approximately two weeks. With only 51 minutes' worth of running time, the storytelling has to be quick and to the point, and it is. The film is divided into two separate but tenuously connected plotlines. In the first, a man tries to avoid being murdered at the stroke of midnight, only to expire from a heart attack. In the second, a doctor's intended adulterous affair comes to an ironic-and tragic-sudden conclusion. Richard Conte stars as Peter Wells, a onetime champion race-car driver whose career was interrupted by the war. Linking up with an Italian racing team, Wells hope to stage a comeback, while his wife Pat (Mari Aldon) wishes that he'd give up his dangerous profession. Pat finally walks out on her husband, but has a change of heart when he enters the prestigious Grand Prix. The latter plays an American diplomat who is being used as an unwitting courier by diamond smugglers.Honor Blackman, twixt and tween her "English Rose" period and her leather-clad Avengers days, is the femme fatale. In this drama, a cynical sculptor finds a fresh outlook on life after meeting a lovely ballerina. He is utterly enchanted with her and begins creating a life-sized depiction of the beauty. Unfortunately, this enrages her jealous lover who brutally beats the artist. The sculptor is severely injured and begins losing his sight. He desperately needs an operation to save his failing vision, but instead focuses on finishing his work. He then tries to make the dancer believe that he doesn't care any more, but when she learns the truth she abandons her thuggish beau in favor of the sculptor. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
In this thriller, a nearly bankrupt businessman blackmails a buddy into to murdering him within a week so that his wife can collect on his hefty insurance policy. Unfortunately, his business takes a sudden upswing, and he no longer has to die. Too bad his friend doesn't know that. The hero suffers several near misses before learning that it is partner and another who really want to kill him, not his friend whom they have kidnapped and framed. Though not readily apparent by its title, The Four-Sided Triangle belongs in the realm of science fiction/fantasy. Barbara Payton stars as Lena, a British girl raised in America who returns to her hometown on a sentimental journey. Here she is reunited with her childhood friend Bill (Stephen Murray), now a scientist. With the help of his pal Robin (John Van Eyssen), Bill has developed a duplicating machine (today it'd be called a cloning device). When Robin and Lena fall in love, the heartbroken Bill decides to create a duplicate Lena, whom he names Helen. Unfortunately, since Helen is an exact copy of Lena, the clone falls in love with Robin as well. A climactic fire claims the life of one of the two Lenas--but which one? Adapted from the popular British radio serial of the same name, Spaceways is a dual-market science fiction effort, co-financed by England's Hammer Films and America's Lippert Studios. American rocket scientist Stephen Mitchell (Howard Duff) works day and night to realize his goal of sending the first man-made satellite into outer space. Meanwhile, Mitchell's wife Vanessa (Cecile Chevreau) is carrying on an affair with fellow-scientist Crenshaw (Andrew Osborn). Not long after Mitchell discovers this, the satellite is launched ahead of schedule. Since both his wife and her lover have disappeared at the same time, Mitchell is accused of murdering the pair and stuffing their corpses into the spaceship.
