A workaholic architect, frustrated in his job but determined to make a better life for his family, is bestowed with a powerful universal remote that allows him more control over his life than he ever knew possible in director Frank Coraci's high-concept fantasy comedy. On the surface, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) seems to have it all, yet with all the demands forced upon him by his ungrateful boss (David Hasselhoff), Michael finds that setting aside time to spend with his loving wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale), and two picture-perfect children, Ben (Joseph Castanon) and Samantha (Tatum McCann), has grown increasingly difficult. When a frustrating bout with the television remote leads the overworked husband and father to a nearby Bed, Bath & Beyond in search of a universal remote with the power to control all of his electronic devices, a curious peek into the back room leads Michael into the company of eccentric employee and talented inventor Morty (Christopher Walken). It seems that Morty has created a device that will not only allow Michael complete control over his television and stereo, but his entire life as well. As Michael discovers that the remarkable device has the power to muffle the barks of the family dog, zoom himself past an irritating quarrel with his wife, and even allow him to travel back and forth through time to different points in his life, the rush of being able to skip straight to the good parts in life soon leaves him feeling as if he's missing out on the total experience. Only when Michael begins to realize that the he has lost control of his life and the remote is now programming him does he finally learn that life is as much about the moments he'd rather forget as it is the moments he will always remember. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Parodying educational films of the 1950s, this satiric comedy presents a warning about the dangers of self-abuse as we learn the sad story of Lou (Lou Romano), a quiet teenager who is addicted to masturbation. Lou has always been shy around girls, and even his father (also played by Romano) thinks something is wrong since his boy has never been on a date. Lou has a crush on Margaret (Katheryn Cain), and at the urging of his father Lou gathers his courage and asks her out on a date. Margaret agrees, and soon the two are seeing each other on a regular basis, but when she decides it's time for Lou to move to second base, he succumbs to the Sin of Onan and is caught in the act by police. Having brought shame to himself, his family, and his girl, Lou is sent to a medical facility, the Johnson Clinic, to be treated for his malady; there, Lou meets Rebecca (Michelle Maaske), a girl with a problem not unlike his own. The Trouble With Lou was shown at the 2001 Slamdance Film Festival, where it received the MovieMaker Breakthrough Award. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

One man's fascination with pornography leads him down a path of destruction, hurting both himself and others. In this independent drama, Paul (Michael DeGood) is a young man who has problems with women, who falls into the habit of purchasing pornography and hiring prostitutes. After making a few amateur porn videos on his own, he meets Spano (Craig Wasson), a major producer of adult films who tells Paul he could go far in pornography if he could find the right star. When Paul meets Kate (Katheryn Cain) -- a naive, aspiring actress who has just moved to L.A. -- he thinks he may have found just the right girl to build his career on. But Paul is blind to the dangerous and sordid world he has moved into, and the deeper he goes, the more damage is done to himself and to Kate. Co-star Craig Wasson also served as associate producer for this film, which was shown at the 1999 Santa Barbara Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
