Italian lead actress in international films, Lisa Gastoni first appeared onscreen in 1954. ~ All Movie GuideThis curious Italian drama is the medium for bringing to light the soul-searching conversations of an erotomaniac woman and a troubled priest. The woman is desperate to have some sort of real relationship with someone. She decides the priest is an appropriate person. He, in turn, needs to confide his philosophical and spiritual questionings to someone and unburden himself of his own doubt about his moral fitness to fulfill his role. Norman Wisdom made his third film appearance in the slapstick musical Man of the Moment. This time, Norman is a clerk in the British ministry who is forced to sub for an ailing delegate at a Geneva Peace Conference. As a result, the island's queen refuses to participate in any sort of negotiations unless Norman sits in at the proceedings. The nervous British government immediately bestows a knighthood on the hapless delegate. . .and then the fun begins, as several scurvy types try to kill off Norman and topple the Queen from her throne. Rod Steiger portrays Italian dictator Benito Mussolini in this internationally produced "how the mighty have fallen" biopic. In the waning days of the war, the once-strutting Il Duce hides from his pursuers like a common thief. He's hoping to fall into the hands of his former Axis comrades or the benign Allied troops, rather than suffer the vengeance of the out-for-blood Italian freedom fighters. But it is the latter group who reaches Mussolini first, ignominiously executing both the dictator and his mistress Clara Petracchi (Lisa Gastoni). This strangely cast period piece features Henry Fonda as a German cardinal and Franco Nero as an Italian officer. Originally titled Mussolini: Ultimo Atto, The Last Days of Mussolini was also issued as The Last Four Days. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Filmed in England, They Who Dare is undeservedly the least-known of director Lewis Milestone's sound films. Set in the Aegean sea during World War II, the film recounts the exploits of Britain's Special Boat Squadron. Sent on life-or-death commando missions, the squadron (six English, four Greek) hops from island to island, sabotaging Axis air bases. The centerpiece of the film is an assignment to dynamite German air fields on the island of Rhodes. Robert Westerby is credited with the screenplay of They Who Dare, and Lewis Milestone insisted the story was taken verbatim from the reminiscences of the squadron's two survivors; on the other hand, star Dirk Bogarde claimed that the film was improvised as they went along. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The titular trio is played by popular British comedian Jimmy Edwards, up-and-coming leading man Laurence Harvey and stalwart character actor David Tomlinson.
