This is a soap opera about a rich, suave, but self-aggrandizing villain and the women who either love or hate him. The melodrama sudses up with Ernie Stoddard's (Tony Curtis) determination to bring legal gambling to an island off the California coast and a local councilman's equally strong determination to stop him. The catch is Stoddard's ex-wife Erin (Carol Lynley) is now married to the councilman, but her heart still skips a beat when Stoddard walks into the room. The councilman is her third husband; her first, Stoddard's partner, was apparently killed by parties unknown. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

The Mexican western Duelo en el Dorado was lensed sometime in the late 1960s. Luis Aguilar and Emilio Fernandez (yes, the same Emilio Fernandez who shot and killed a critic who'd carped about one of the films he'd directed) play antagonists who spend the film's running time at each other's throats-literally. One is a white settler, the other a Native American. The bone of contention is a white orphan, whom the Indian wants to adopt into his tribe. Duel en el Dorado is quite violent, but at least has the saving grace of solid story values. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This comedy is a reworking of old vaudeville routines used to show some hilarious (at least they are intended to be) sex situations. This situation comedy finds a court-appointed attorney representing the poor and downtrodden of Mexico City against the Establishment. Justo (Cantinflas) is the dedicated lawyer who encounters a diverse and hilarious clientele. With the help of his secretary Angelica (Lupita Ferrer), in court and in bed, he fights for the rights of the underprivileged against the elite. Justo also falls for a pretty chorus girl (Susana Salvat) who is more than willing to express her amorous appreciation to her defender. This is an excellent comedy vehicle for Cantinflas, an adored comedian in the Spanish-speaking world. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

Hall Bartlett directs the rural drama The Children of Sanchez, based on the novel The Children of Sanchez: Autobiography of a Mexican Family written by Oscar Lewis in the '60s. Anthony Quinn stars as the widowed Jesus Sanchez, a poor farmer struggling to provide for his family in Mexico City. Also starring Lupita Ferrer as Consuelo and Stathis Giallelis as Roberto. This is the last film in the 50-year career of international star Dolores del Rio, who plays the Grandma.
