The small New Jersey seaside community of Point Pleasant would never be the same after Christina Nickson (Elisabeth Harnois) was saved from drowning in the ocean by handsome lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page). Evidently with no relatives of her own, Christina was taken in by local doctor Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi) and his wife, Meg (Susan Walters), and became best friends with the Kramers' daughter, Judy (Aubrey Dollar). What no one in town could have possibly suspected was that Christina was the daughter of Satan himself -- nor did Christina tumble to her heritage, even when weird and terrible things happened all around her whenever she became angry, frightened, or confused. As she searched for her biological mother, a "mortal" who by a remarkable coincidence had been born in Point Pleasant, her movements were carefully monitored by her demonic dad, who was laying the groundwork for an apocalyptic battle between good and evil. Among the other residents of Point Pleasant were Terry Burke (Brent Weber), Jesse's best friend; Paula Hargrove (Cameron Richardson), Jesse's possessive girlfriend, for whom Terry lusted in his heart; Paula's libidinous mother, Amber Hargrove (Dina Meyer); and last but far from least, Lucas Boyd (Grant Show), a mysterious stranger who arrived in town just after Christina moved in with the Kramers. Co-created by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and John McLaughlin, Point Pleasant debuted January 19, 2005, on the FOX network. Most screenwriters fight to protect their creative vision, but one man goes a good bit farther than most in this sequel to the made-for-TV horror flick Cabin by the Lake. Murderous scriptwriter Stanley Caldwell (Judd Nelson) is missing and thought to be dead, but the strange stories of his grisly crimes have made the project he was writing at the time of his death a hot property, and director Mike Helton (Brian Krause) has hired writer Allison Gaddis (Dahlia Salem) to polish Caldwell's rough draft as he prepares to bring Stanley's final work to the big screen. But it turns out Stanley isn't dead after all -- he managed to escape and has gone into hiding, but the news that his work is being tampered with brings him back to the scene of his crimes. Posing as J.C. Reddick, a relative of the producer, Caldwell gets hired as an assistant director on the film, and claiming to have known the late Caldwell, he sets out to reshape the movie so that it reflects his own twisted ideals. Three lifelong cheaters wise up in this gross-out college comedy, which marks the second feature role for Rushmore star Jason Schwartzman. It's the last semester of senior year for roomies Dave (Devon Sawa), Sam (Jason Segel), and Jeff (Michael C. Maronna), a trio of twenty-somethings whose enthusiasm for higher learning is matched only by their enthusiasm for root canals performed without the aid of anesthesia. As such, their entire collegiate existence has been an elaborate series of cons and scams designed to plagiarize essays, skip midterms, and covertly manipulate bell curves. When deranged geek Ethan (Schwartzman) -- who harbors a psychotic fixation for a flaxen-haired co-ed named Angela (James King) -- gets wind of their scheming, he blackmails Dave and the gang into contriving a date between him and his crush. But as Dave cozies up to Angela, he realizes that no amount of scheming can hide the fact that he's the one that's truly in love. This entry in the perennially popular teen horror genre is from writer/director Steve Carpenter and the producers of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and Urban Legend (1998). Melissa Sagemiller stars as Cassie, a college freshman trying to get over the death of her boyfriend Sean (Casey Affleck) in an auto accident. Making matters worse is that ever since the car crash, which also nearly claimed her own life, Cassie has seemed to hover in a netherworld between the living and the dead, where she believes she's hallucinating some spooky, emotional visitations from Sean. In the meantime, she's also coming under the sway of her mysterious friends Matt (Wes Bentley) and Annabel (Eliza Dushku) as well as an androgynous acquaintance (Angela Featherstone) of theirs. The latest innovation in high-tech defense hardware turns out to have a very dangerous mind of its own in this action thriller. After establishing herself as a bankable star with the fish out of water comedy Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon returns in what could be described as a "fish back in water" comedy. Melanie Carmichael (Witherspoon) is a successful New York fashion designer who is dating Andrew Hennings (Patrick Dempsey), a wealthy socialite whose mother, Katherine Hennings (Candice Bergen), is the Big Apple's mayor. One day, Andrew pops the big question and asks Melanie to marry him; Melanie is overjoyed, but unknown to Andrew, Melanie has some unfinished business to take care of first. Despite her polished uptown image, Melanie grew up poor in the deep South, and as a teenager she married her high school sweetheart Jake Perry (Josh Lucas). Things went sour and Melanie moved East, reinventing herself along the way, but Jake never bothered to legally end their marriage. Caught up in Toretto's world of gang conflict that is resolved in late-night car races, Spindler starts to sympathize with his chief suspect and falls in love with Toretto's younger sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). Shot in 33 days, this $9.6 million biographical drama of behind-the-scenes interactions within the Rat Pack group of Frank Sinatra (Ray Liotta), Dean Martin (Joe Mantegna), and Sammy Davis Jr. (Don Cheadle) is set against the political backdrop of the '60s, establishing links of singers, gangsters, actors, and politicans (sometimes brushing shoulders in the same rooms). The film also explores Sinatra's relationship with John F. Kennedy (William Peterson). Deciding to support Kennedy, Sinatra patches up his feud with Peter Lawford (Angus Macfadyen), since Lawford's wife, Pat (Phyllis Lyons) is JFK's sister -- and a Sinatra-Kennedy friendship soon follows. However, when Joe Kennedy (Dan O'Herlihy) decides Sinatra's nightclub, mob and commie connections are a no-no for JFK, the patriarch's interference angers Sinatra. Meanwhile, Sammy Davis Jr. enters into an interracial liaison with May Britt (Megan Dodds), and the dynamics of the situation are visualized in an imaginative musical fantasy sequence in which Davis sees himself singing and dancing for an unresponsive line of white supremacists. Broadway's Savion Glover stepped in with the film's choreography. Substitute singers featured the voice of Michael Dees for Sinatra and Mantegna duplicating Dino. The weekly, 60-minute Fox series Tru Calling was the strange saga of medical graduate student Tru Davies (Eliza Dushku). When her grant money was abruptly terminated, Tru was forced to make ends meet with a night-shift job at a Boston morgue. It was there that our heroine discovered her ability to communicate with certain of her deceased "clients"; she was then able to relive the events of the previous day, and in so doing prevent the death of the person with whom she had communicated -- or, at the very least, to resolve that person's other problems, thereby averting disaster of a more wide-ranging variety. Alas, Tru had plenty of problems of her own, what with her brother Harrison (Shawn Reaves), a chronic gambler, and her sister, Meredith (Jessica Collins), a drug-addicted lawyer. Also, Tru had to deal with her doubting boss, Davis (Zach Galifianakis), as well as a sinister chap named Jack Harper (Jason Priestley), who was introduced halfway through the series' initial season. Jack possessed the same psychic "gift" as Tru -- but instead of saving people from death, he merely wanted to make certain that they stayed dead. Created by Jon Harmon Feldman, Tru Calling deftly balanced its supernatural and sometimes horrific aspects with wry humor and touching humanity.
