The small New Jersey seaside community of Point Pleasant would never be the same after Christina Nickson (Elisabeth Harnois) was saved from drowning in the ocean by handsome lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page). Evidently with no relatives of her own, Christina was taken in by local doctor Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi) and his wife, Meg (Susan Walters), and became best friends with the Kramers' daughter, Judy (Aubrey Dollar). What no one in town could have possibly suspected was that Christina was the daughter of Satan himself -- nor did Christina tumble to her heritage, even when weird and terrible things happened all around her whenever she became angry, frightened, or confused. As she searched for her biological mother, a "mortal" who by a remarkable coincidence had been born in Point Pleasant, her movements were carefully monitored by her demonic dad, who was laying the groundwork for an apocalyptic battle between good and evil. Among the other residents of Point Pleasant were Terry Burke (Brent Weber), Jesse's best friend; Paula Hargrove (Cameron Richardson), Jesse's possessive girlfriend, for whom Terry lusted in his heart; Paula's libidinous mother, Amber Hargrove (Dina Meyer); and last but far from least, Lucas Boyd (Grant Show), a mysterious stranger who arrived in town just after Christina moved in with the Kramers. Shot in 33 days, this $9.6 million biographical drama of behind-the-scenes interactions within the Rat Pack group of Frank Sinatra (Ray Liotta), Dean Martin (Joe Mantegna), and Sammy Davis Jr. (Don Cheadle) is set against the political backdrop of the '60s, establishing links of singers, gangsters, actors, and politicans (sometimes brushing shoulders in the same rooms). The film also explores Sinatra's relationship with John F. Kennedy (William Peterson). Deciding to support Kennedy, Sinatra patches up his feud with Peter Lawford (Angus Macfadyen), since Lawford's wife, Pat (Phyllis Lyons) is JFK's sister -- and a Sinatra-Kennedy friendship soon follows. However, when Joe Kennedy (Dan O'Herlihy) decides Sinatra's nightclub, mob and commie connections are a no-no for JFK, the patriarch's interference angers Sinatra. Meanwhile, Sammy Davis Jr. enters into an interracial liaison with May Britt (Megan Dodds), and the dynamics of the situation are visualized in an imaginative musical fantasy sequence in which Davis sees himself singing and dancing for an unresponsive line of white supremacists. Broadway's Savion Glover stepped in with the film's choreography. Substitute singers featured the voice of Michael Dees for Sinatra and Mantegna duplicating Dino. The weekly, 60-minute Fox series Tru Calling was the strange saga of medical graduate student Tru Davies (Eliza Dushku). When her grant money was abruptly terminated, Tru was forced to make ends meet with a night-shift job at a Boston morgue. It was there that our heroine discovered her ability to communicate with certain of her deceased "clients"; she was then able to relive the events of the previous day, and in so doing prevent the death of the person with whom she had communicated -- or, at the very least, to resolve that person's other problems, thereby averting disaster of a more wide-ranging variety. Alas, Tru had plenty of problems of her own, what with her brother Harrison (Shawn Reaves), a chronic gambler, and her sister, Meredith (Jessica Collins), a drug-addicted lawyer. Also, Tru had to deal with her doubting boss, Davis (Zach Galifianakis), as well as a sinister chap named Jack Harper (Jason Priestley), who was introduced halfway through the series' initial season. Jack possessed the same psychic "gift" as Tru -- but instead of saving people from death, he merely wanted to make certain that they stayed dead. Created by Jon Harmon Feldman, Tru Calling deftly balanced its supernatural and sometimes horrific aspects with wry humor and touching humanity. In this direct-to-video prequel to the 1999 feature Cruel Intentions, Kathryn Merte (Amy Adams) is the manipulative, cold-hearted daughter of social climber Tiffany Merte-Valmont (Mimi Rogers). Tiffany has just married again, and Kathryn is not getting along well with her new stepbrother Sebastian (Robin Dunne), who is just as skilled in the venomous art of social gamesmanship as Kathryn. Together they negotiate the tricky paths of sexual and personal power at their upscale private high school, Manchester Prep. Cruel Intentions II began life as Manchester Prep, a TV series for the Fox network that was spun off from the hit film by director and screenwriter Roger Kumble. However, the show's portrayal of sexually voracious teens sparked a controversy in the press, and Fox opted to cancel the series before the two episodes that had been completed ever aired.
