Exotic Nicaraguan-American leading lady Barbara Carrera burst onto the high-fashion modelling scene at the age of 17. Barbara achieved prominence in the U.S. for her appearances in a series of "Chiquita Banana" commercials. Her debut film was 1970's Puzzle of a Downfall Child, but most filmgoers were first made aware of Barbara via her barely-dressed star turn in the 1976 sci-fier Embryo She was briefly a "James Bond girl" in 1983, playing seductive villainess Fatima Blush in Sean Connery's return to the 007 fold, Never Say Never Again. Laurence Olivier trots out his late-career German accent once again, playing Rudolf Hess in this sequel to Wild Geese. Richard Burton was set to star in the film, but when he died, Edward Fox was brought in as a replacement, playing Burton's younger brother. (the film is dedicated to Burton). The story concerns John Haddad (Scott Glenn), who is hired by a television company to engineer the kidnapping of Rudolf Hess from Spandau prison. Helping him with his assignment are the brother and sister team of Kathy (Barbara Carrera) and Michael Lukas (John Terry). A maid working for a wealthy family is shocked when her son, who had disappeared years before, suddenly shows up at the home of the family she works for. He moves into her employer's house, where he proceeds to have an affair with the wife. After producer Irwin Allen highlighted the dangers of fire in the Towering Inferno and the dangers of water in the Poseidon Adventure, he is back to fire again but this time it is within the earth, at least for awhile. This fairly routine disaster film is set on a resort island with a volcano that is beginning to rumble. Stars include a long list of names: Paul Newman is Hank, the savvy oil driller who gets people to safety even against their will, Jacqueline Bisset is the woman he is interested in, William Holden, Eddie Albert, Barbara Carrera, Veronica Hamel and several others play individuals trapped on the island. Hank convinces some people to follow him to the highest part of the island as the volcano gets set to blow its top. They encounter several dangerous situations after the dormant volcano wakes up but nothing quite like the non-stop, action filled, death-defying scenes from the explosion of volcano movies that hit the screens in 1997: Dante's Peak, Volcano, Eruption, Volcano: Fire in the Mountain, and a few more from around the world.
