Outstanding French film noir. A young Jeanne Moreau and an older Jean Gabin. Wasn't sure if I'd like seeing an older Gabin in a role(like Cary Grant in Charade) but Gabin was great as Max. Loved Becker's direction. Great movie all around. MUST SEE!

Highly influential French noir/crime thriller/drama....shamefully obscure & undeservedly overlooked until now...Criterion DVD finally released in January....actually kinda ruined my evening..I was planning on watching another movie tonight after this one..but I don't want to let this one out of my head yet,..it was that good. 1954 Paris sparkles in glorious black & white..Jean Gabin & the whole cast is wonderful..Jacque Becker's direction is impeccable.
