Albert Finney gives a first rate performance in the remake of The Browning Version, the story of an English prep school professor who's career is in shambles as he is forced into retirement by a non appreciative university; and who's marriage is none the better as his wife is having an affair. Despite the perfection of his portrayal, it was SO emotionally hard to watch at times I cannot say this was totally enjoyable as I found it excrutatingly uncomfortable to watch this character in his most agonizing moments. If you are a fan of Albert Finney this film should be on your must see list.

Albert Finney is one of the greatest and most briliant actors ever! It is true, this movie is somewhat slow, but the story is so moving and yes, heartbreaking as well. The acting truly is superb to most films. I thought this was a wonderful movie and recommend it to anyone who isn't looking for a high action, fast moving film, but a true drama. Be prepared to have a box of tissue nearby!

Carol C. This is a remake of the original "Browning Version with Michael Redgreave. Once you've seen that one it is hard to take subsequent versions seriously. Some big changes are made in this second version and I don't like them at all. Despite the wonderful acting by Albert Finney, the film trys too hard to water down the original which is closer to the Rattigan play from which it was taken. See the first film.
