very slow and not engaging, don't know why I endured the entire movie. Bedroom scenes totally unnecessary, just thrown in.

Not one of Scott's Best films. Poor script and direction. Watch the film: "The Music Box" with Jessica Lange instead -- same type of subject matter but better story and far better done as well. I'm a George C. Scott fan but this is not a role that I would list as one of his best. Roberts was good as was Jan Rubes but show me a P.E. coach who wants to take his time to investigate WWII history...I mean, come on! non-sense! and too many shots of Diane Lane in the buff: Boring and unnecessary I say Pass on this one. Not a bad movie at all. George C. Scott is great, and other cast members are also very good. Story line is interesting. I did feel that the script had problems. The man from the past whose family and he endured the crimes of Scott's past seems to appear without sufficient cause. All he does is hang around and watch. The ending was, I think, a bit cheap. It seemed a bit too convenient and contrived. But the movie held my interest; it had a good story line with nice development and suspense.
