Cool Surface (1993)
Member Rating:
Once Teri Hatcher hit it big on the TV series Lois and Clark, several of her less memorable earlier projects began popping out of the woodwork. The R-rated The Cool Surface is listed as a 1993 film, but one wonders. Hatcher plays Dani Payson, a beautiful aspiring actress and neighbor to playwright Jarvis Scott (Robert Patrick). Jarvis observes Dani as she and her live-in lover alternately have sex and argue violently. He begins to have his own fantasies about Dani and is inspired to base one of his characters on her. The ambitious Dani finds out about his novel, then campaigns to win the lead in Scott's upcoming film. Cool Surface evidently wasn't cool enough to prevent certain well-proportioned members of the cast from baring all. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Yes, we get a couple glimpses of Teri Hatcher (at 19:56 and 27:08) but it's only from the waist up and the scenes are pretty tame. The movie is so convoluted and boring that it's truly not worth the effort. It's literally unwatchable. Try HEAVEN'S PRISONERS instead. A much better movie and we get get to see more of Teri.

The Cool Surface is a direct to video movie which tries very hard to be a gripping Hollywood-Sex-Murder Thriller, but sadly, even with a wonderful cast, turns out to be a boring tale of flat characters in search of a plot thread. Teri Hatcher's "real & spectacular" unclad pre-motherhood figure truly is the only reason to rent this DVD. That said, this flick supplied the footage that made Hatcher the most downloaded on the Internet back in the early ’90. Hatcher looks great & hot in every scene, clothed or in the altogether she is every bit the sexy young starlet she portrays. For the Celebrity Skin crowd, this movie is a classic. For the average viewer or Desperate Housewives fan looking for samples of Hatcher’s early work, I recommend Tango & Cash or Brain-Smasher before this one.

Sleaze-bag film - This isn't my kind of film, and it violates one of the principal rules for films and books - never do a story about a writer, and that's what this is. Actually, two writers and an actress (Hatcher). First time author (with an agent - they are harder to land than a publishing house) produced a dud but is encouraged to do it better. He moves in next to Teri Hatcher's abode and the story surrounding her stirs him to write a gem. Uh, yeah, but it doesn't work that way. Hatcher takes it off several times in this film, but the story lacks any real bite to it. While she's cute as always, the whole thing lands a dude of one-1/2 stars (3/10). It isn't horrid, but it sure isn't that good, either. R for nudity/sex scenes (most of which are gratuitus).
