Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Just what I was in the mood for - a fun comedy with no thinking required! Dazed and Confused is a nostalgic look back at the last day of high school for some seniors in 1976. A bunch of characters, lots of 70's Greatest Hits songs, with the haircuts and clothing to match. Matthew McConaghey, in my opinion, has the funniest "look" of all of the characters. Don't get me wrong, though - it's all in good fun. A fun way to spend two hours.

Although I am from a very different era, I found this movie to be a great representation of high school life. The personalities were all there. It has a great cast, very funny. Richard Linklater really is a master of dialogue. I'll never get tired of this movie.

All in good fun, and I'm of that generation, still getting by and now an aging tail-end baby boomer. The only part that looked off to me was that the kids were driving some hardware not many could afford in high school. A GTO Judge? Get real.
