Woman, Woman was one of the last film vehicles of former model/chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit, whose association with the murder of her ex-lover Stanford White by her wealthy husband Harry K. Thaw had catapulted her to the ranks of "instant celebrity." As she had so often been in her previous films, Nesbit was cast as a pure-and-innocent country girl who is unwillingly corrupted by the Big City. Upon her arrival in New York, sweet Alice (Nesbit) falls in with the footloose Greenwich Village crowd. One of her new friends is an advocate of "Free Love," but Alice wants none of this and flees to the arms of up-and-coming engineer Samson Rathbone (Clifford Bruce). Alas, her marriage to Rathbone does not make Alice immune to the overtures of rapacious males, and soon she is fending off the advances of her husband's millionaire boss McKay (William H. Tooker). When Rathbone contacts a raging fever while working on a construction project in the Tropics, Alice goes to McKay and begs him for enough money to transport Rathbone to a more agreeable climate. As a result, Alice becomes McKay's mistress, and ultimately the mother of his child. Upon recovering, Rathbone learns of his wife's indiscretions (though not the motivation behind them) and orders her out of his house, whereupon she becomes a social pariah in the small town of her birth. Finally, Rathbone relents, begging Alice to come back to him -- but by now it appears as if she has fallen in love with her "protector" McKay. How does this end? Well, how does it always end? (Hint: Middle-aged millionaires seldom get the girl in pre-1920 pictures). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
