The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)

The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Member Rating:
Curse of Frankenstein was the "breakthrough" picture for the fabled Hammer Studios. Told in flashback, the story centers around Baron Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing), a dangerously arrogant scientist who takes it upon himself to play God. Using portions of dead bodies, Victor fashions a synthetic monster (Christopher Lee) with a bad attitude. In a radical departure from the Frankenstein canon, it is the imperious Victor who orchestrates the film's two murders by "borrowing" the brain of a learned professor, then leaving his next victim at the mercy of the monster. In 1958, the film spwaned the sequel Revenge of Frankenstein. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

What a great Hammer film. Hammer films are so rich in color and texture and detail. Peter Cushing is at his best. I think this is the first Hammer movie I have seen him in where he is "making out" with the maid! He usually plays non-sexual parts if you know what I mean! I just love this era of the Hammer films. I never get tired of watching them. Viva la Hammer! (Susan L.)

A blast from the past. Must be that I'm getting older but I always forget some part of this storyline. It's a great Hammer Studios movie not to be missed at Halloween especially for older individuals who first viewed it in their childhood. It's not the traditional Mary Shelly Frankenstein but the twist is a good one.
