Synopsis of Scrap of Paper

This is yet another of the 12 feature-length mysteries put out by the Arrow Film Company, all of them solved by a detective referred to as "Tex, Elucidator of Mysteries." Here, the issue is food profiteering. Three dealers have agreed to hold up the price of milk and they've signed a document which is in the hands of Jacob Strauss (William Fredericks), who is the head of the provision pool. Strauss has an argument with his associates and threatens to expose them. Not surprisingly, he is shot, and the blame is put on the people who were last seen with him. Through his intelligent handling of the case, Tex (Glen White) manages to track down the one who is really responsible for the killing -- a resident of Chinatown. Tex instigates a riot in an opium den, which flushes out his man. A scrap of paper he is holding is part of the agreement between the profiteers. ~ Janiss Garza, All Movie Guide
