Richtofen (1932)

Richtofen (1932)
This being a German film, it is hardly surprising that WWI air ace Baron Von Richtofen -- aka "The Red Baron" was depicted sympathetically. Carl W. Meyer is cast as the infamous Baron, who during his short but colorful career was personally responsible for the downing of nearly eighty Allied airplanes. According to the film, Von Richtofen was an above-reproach "knight of the air," beloved by friend and foe alike. Much of the footage is devoted to the fictional romance between the Red Baron and pretty French maiden Yvonne (Sybil Morrell). Richtofen ended with actual newsreel footage of the Baron's state funeral after he met his personal Waterloo at the hands of Canadian flyboy Roy Brow. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
