Officer 666 (1914)
Synopsis of Officer 666
Based on the successful stage comedy of the same name, Officer 666 was one of the few American films distributed by George Kleine. Howard Estabrook headed the cast in this rollicking tale of a carefree millionaire, an art thief, and an overzealous London "bobby." Much of the humor was physical, as witness the scene in which the handcuffed hero has a difficult time embracing his sweetheart. Just as these scenes brought down the house in the original stage production, so too did they elicit loud laughter when re-created for the screen. Officer 666 was remade in 1920, with Tom Moore in the lead. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
