This production of `Hamlet' is the best I have ever seen (and I have seen every film version and each staged version I've been able to get to). Richard Burton's Hamlet is the closest to the fiery, poetic and deep-feeling Prince of Denmark Shakespeare set down than any other. Hume Cronyn as Polonius is hilarious and this is the only production of `Hamlet' I've ever seen where I actually felt something for the character other than annoyance. Drake's Claudius is human and one feels for the character, especially in the chapel scene. Linda Marsh, as Ophelia, is heartbreaking. Directed by John Gielgud in 1963/64, this is a film of a stage play. If you love Shakespeare's `Hamlet, but have been disappointed by filmed versions, this is the piece for you. Highly recommended.
