This is an interesting movie set in the Philipines just prior to its liberation from the Japanese. Tony Curtis is excellent in his role of a cynical hard fighting Marine who is sent on an intelligence mission with three others in his platoon. Not to give away the plot; the story is full of action and suspense. The movie was filmed in Hawaii in the early 1950's and the scenery and photography are amazing. This is a must see for those who like war drama.

Beachhead is based on a book by Richard G Huber, a WWII vet, called I've Got Mine. It may be based, in part, on a true event. A similar movie was made about 15 years later called Ambush Bay. It was filmed in a park in Hawaii and looked ok for a 1954 color film. Frank Lovejoy is great as the old sergeant who the men had issues with due to a previously failed mission. The description is incorrect. More than one man survived during the attempted rescue of the French plantation owner who just happened to have a beautiful daughter living with him that nobody knew about. Just another one of the many farmer's daughter / secret mission movies. It is a B movie at best. Skip it.
