A deeply moving documentary about the life and business partnership of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge. Framing the story is the Paris auction of the couple's spectacular art collection. Berge talks frankly about how Saint Laurent became a world-renowned fashion designer following the death of his mentor Christian Dior, and the deep depression of Saint Laurent's later years. Many views of his cutting-edge designs, as well as the art collection. Highly recommended!

I forced my husband to watch this with me but to my surprize, both of us were spellbound! YSL has always been someone whose work I have long admired. It was a pure pleasure to see so many of his creations and the models who wore them. I made most of my clothes all during high school and college so to see the actual dresses that inspired some to the outfits that I made was amazing-the color block dresses brought back so many memories. I loved the tenderness that was evident in Pierre Berge and was very sad to see how introverted and tortured YSL really was. I'm so glad that I saw this movie-I now have to do more research on the sale of their magnificent works of art. I've recommended this movie to many people just so they can see the houses and works of art that these two amassed-outstanding!

INTENSELY BORING, unless you happen to be an ardent fanatic about fashion ("haute couteur")... it would have been mildly interesting had it told much of the story of YSL's cutting-edge fashion innovators, but instead it's filled with mundane little "stories" about how they came to RENT (rather than BUY) their apartment in Paris-- Who CARES??
