Very good movie. At first we were not sure what to expect. Kept us on the edge of our seat throughout.

It's a little dated but still relevant. Russian extremists set off a nuclear bomb in their own country in order to blame NATO. It works and starts WWIII. Powers Booth and Rebbeca DeMornay are the doomed B-52 flight crew/lovers. Martin Landau is too dramatic a president. James Earl Jones is always great. Darren McGavin is extra creepy (al la Cheney) as the acting president....all together a nuck-war drama...Also look for Dr. Kelsoe from Scrubs as one of the good guys!

Even understanding that this was a TV movie in 1989, it is pretty disappointing. The chain of command question is the only real drama while the devastation of major nuclear war is almost completely washed over. There is no feeling of intensity, little connection to the characters, and the performances are pretty flat. Fail Safe is a better representation.
