Synopsis of Rivers of a Lost Coast
The quintessentially American pastime known as fly fishing first took shape at the dawn of the 20th Century, when a cadre of pioneers gathered on the Northern Coast of California and began casting their rods into the surf. News of these events spread, until the men inadvertently gave rise to an entire subculture of steelhead fly fishing. At the front of the group stood Bill Schaadt, a mythical figure known for his uncanny angling ability As exciting as all of this was, however, it had a down side as well: by the early 1980s, the collective obsession with fly fishing sent California's fisheries into a seemingly permanent decline.
