This movie is about the title character, America, whose short seventeen years of life, was spent in and out of foster homes. He arrives at a group home where he meets the counselor (Rosie) whom he learns to trust, despite his life. She encourages him to open up, revealing the reason behind his built up anger, sadness and attempted suicide. This movie is a heartbreaking portrayal of life in foster care for many children. It's not a cheesy feel good film, but more of a raw in your face look at reality.

This was a moving and effective way to make a point. Rosie O'Donnell was perfect in her role and the new Philip Johnson who played the title role, was also per, fect. The end was uplifting and made me want to see more of what happens to America and Liza - a sequel !
