Member Rating:
Bennett Miller's adaptation of Michael Lewis' non-fiction best seller Moneyball stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, a one-time phenom who flamed out in the big leagues and now works as the GM for the Oakland Athletics, a franchise that's about to lose their three best players to free agency. Because the team isn't in a financial position to spend as much as perennial favorites like the Yankees and the Red Sox, Beane realizes he needs to radically change how he evaluates what players can bring to the squad. After he meets Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), an Ivy League economics major working as an executive assistant for scouting on another team, Beane realizes he's found the man who understands how to subvert the system of assessing players that's been in place for nearly a century. However, as the duo begin to acquire players that seem too old, injured, or inept to play major-league baseball, they face stiff resistance from both the A's longtime scouts and the team's manager Art Howe (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who outright refuses to allow Beane's more-nontraditional acquisitions to play. Moneyball screened at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Ok as a rental you will enjoy this film. My family was preview to a sneak preview today and we were very surprised. It is witty and has some terrific themes on believing and perseverance. I am not sure if Money ball really works or not but I felt it was not about that. My wife and daughter enjoyed it and they hate sports. It does take some liberties and baseball crazies may find some exaggeration in its history, but I really enjoyed and learned a lot about not just baseball, but people. The Beane family is a nice story here. Sorkin makes these characters fun and funny. One of his best written adaptations. It starts off slow, but builds perfectly. You don't have to like baseball to enjoy this film. It is a good lesson on life and the entire family will cheer these guys. I learned a lot. A nice surprise and great cast. A entertaining fun film. Rent it.

This was a solid movie. Oakland A fans and true blue baseball fans will enjoy this flick about a fundamental change in the evaluation of players in today's past time. I enjoyed it overall, but it did have some slow moments. 3 stars. I didn't think it was worth the movie price, but it will be a solid rental for most folks.
