My teen-aged daughter and I enjoyed this, we watched it twice in a month. It has echoes of LOTR and Douglas Adams, special effects are cheesy but who cares, the actors did a good job. I think if you're not familiar with Pratchett's novels you'll like the movie better - I never could get into the books. I love "the universe is composed of discworld's on the back of elephants on top of giant turtle" sequences.
