Solos (2008)
Member Rating:
A nine year old girl and her friends attempt to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with zombies in order to ensure that the human race doesn't die off. Mankind has laid waste to the planet, and a mysterious virus is transforming regular people into rampaging flesh-eaters. Somehow, a few children are immune to the vicious microorganism, though the armed forces don't hesitate to kill anyone they suspect might be infected. Somehow, nine year old Camille has managed to survive following the death of her parents, though the desolate wastelands offer nothing but suffering and death for the young and weary. Eventually happening across other children like her, the group is bound together by a shared vision of the ocean. This is their destiny. If they can just survive long enough to reach the sea, perhaps Camille and her friends can summon the strength needed to rebuild society from the ashes and give hope to future generations. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It's hard to do desolate without boredom. You need strong narration and story elements. Descendents/Solos doesn't have that. It's the type of film to have on while you do something else, only looking to it for the brief periods where the story is told. The story is presented primarily through scattered, sometimes disorganized and repetitive flashbacks. The pace is slow, the effects are poor and the false color distracting. And worse so, the editing. With the idea that if you mix multiple angles of the same shot very rapidly you can hide the fact that you can't visually sell the shot or explain the story. The movie has potential but never lives up to it. The viewer is left with actions unexplained, confused and at worst, bored. Exposition would have gone a long way to making this story more interesting. If you have something else to do and want a zombie movie in the background, this is the movie for you. All others, run, don't walk to something else. End credits tell the story. Some.

Acting, locations and production values would lead one to believe this was shot in East Berlin in the sixties.

This is just awful. Special effects were anything but special. Looks like it was made back in the 80's. The zombies are few, the kids just walk through a fake scene for most of the movie. The ending is the worst. Ugh. Put in a Walking Dead rerun instead of this garbage and enjoy your life.
