Oscar-winner Kevin Kline returned to his stage roots in the late 2000s for an elaborate production of Edmond Rostand's bittersweet drama Cyrano de Bergerac at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway; a film of that production appears in this exclusive release. The familiar tale - which tells of the big-nosed yet deeply romantic and poetic Cyrano, his love for Roxane, and his decision to feed lines to her through a more handsome suitor - receives new life in this version translated by Anthony Burgess and directed onstage by David Leveaux. Jennifer Garner co-stars as Roxane, with Daniel Sunjata as her suitor, Christian. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

This is Broadway at its best. Kevin Kline is brilliant. Jennifer Gardner is also good as are all of the other performers.

While Kline performance is reasonable... almost good. He just seems to try and add a bit too much Kline type comedy. Never do you forget that it is Kevin in the lead role, he never disappears into the character. Garner on the other hand is horrid. One is left wondering how she ever became a named movie star with acting talents that would be out classed by many high school actors. The production values are also lacking... while it is nothing more than a filmed version of a play, one would have hoped for better sound. In parts I was forced to choose between turning my volume up to full or turning on the captions. In the end the worst movie version of Cyrano is much better than this one.

Great literature, but a slow play. Kevin Kline is outstanding, but the show is almost ruined by Jennifer Garner, who is continuously over-acting. If the audience can't fall in love with Roxane, then it makes it hard to identify with Cyrano. And that is the problem with this version of the play. Still, Kline is outstanding. His performance is the redemptive feature.
