Working Class Rock Star (2008)

Working Class Rock Star (2008)
Member Rating:
For any music lover who ever thought being in a band was all fame and glamour, director Justin McConnell follows three bands who refuse to give up their dreams of musical stardom despite knowing well that the odds are stacked against them. To some bands, getting signed to a major label is a signal that they're on the road to success; to others, it's the beginning of the end. As record sales slide and musicians earn less money than ever before, the entire music industry becomes a mediocre hotbed of unoriginal ideas and overproduced pop sludge. Despite all of this, the members of Tub Ring, Bloodshoteye, and 3 Mile Scream still strive to create music that stimulates and inspires. As these three bands work and tour diligently just to pay the rent, members of GWAR, Lamb of God, Bleeding Through, Himsa, Dog Fashion Disco, and other major players in the heavy metal scene weigh in with their opinions of why the music industry is failing both the fans, and the artists they love. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I managed to catch this at a screening in Portland and am glad I got to see it on the big screen. It's a well made flick, that's for sure. If you're an artist or musician, this really reinforces the value of approaching your career from the most informed position possible. It's not all pretty, and this doc tells it like it is, from the mouths of the people that live it daily. Not negative in any way though, this is more inspiring. Really should rent this.
