This is a somewhat dark account of of the strife between Siam and Burma in the 1700s and the impact it has on a small blue elephant. Told from a Thai perspective, this tale dwells too much on the politics and conflict and leaves kids trying to figure out why the armies are fighting and why the demonic, red -eyed monster elephant killed Khan's father and wants to kill Khan at the end. Interesting offering, but not recommended for the minivan DVD player on the trip to grandma's house.

My six year old daughter and I loved this movie. Yes, it is about a war and its impact on the elephant. It also tries to teach that family is important and fighting is not the way to handle problems. Also, that even the smallest elephant (kid) can do great things if his heart is in the right place. Believe me, it's far less evil, graphic and heart wrenching than Lion King (which we also love)!
