Beautifully portrayed story of Leo and Sofia Tolstoy by Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren. They certainly deserved their nominations. All of the performances were emotionally charged but Helen Mirren was so convincing as Sofia that I could feel Sofia's pain and her sense of isolation from the man she loved. This is a true classic.

This is the story of Leo Tolstoy, who was ashamed and embarrassed by his financial success. He had advisers who were all too happy to divest him of his money to the benefit the poor. Sofya, on the other hand, wanted the money for her children's inheritance in a society with no community property laws. Wonderful story, wonderful acting!
