A bit of history of relations between the British and American soldiers in WWII and also the difference between how black soldiers were treated in England as opposed to the United States. I really enjoyed this movie...Richard Gere is always terrific.

I caught this movie on DISH Network late one night when I couldn't sleep. I had never even heard of it before, but after watching it I was VERY surprised at how much I liked it. The cinematography was extrodinary and the acting supurb. The story moves somewhat slow, but it never insults your intelligence with cheesy dialogue, cheap theatrics or a predictable Hollywood ending. I also really liked the fact that, although it takes place during WW2, the director didn't feel the need to include unrelated combat scenes or create a sub-plot for dramatic effect. Im not sure if the version I saw was a "directors cut" or something, but the running time was different than this DVD...the "Yanks" I watched was almost 3-hours long!!
