This movie was pretty decent for an older movie watched in a "now" time. There are no special effects to speak of, no bloody kiling scenes (which I didn't mind at all). I may be a little biased in my opinion because I lived in Japan and I love their culture and their sense of duty and honor. Don't watch this movie for the action, just watch it because you want to see a decent story.

I thought this movie was very good. Robert Mitchum does a great job. The story line is a little bit cliche now, but I imagine was fairly fresh when originally released. The action scenes move very quick, and generally end in just a few moments, they dont draw them out to be overly dramatic. I liked this movie a lot.

Classic 1970's action drama of two wartime friends embroiled against the Yakusa, an ancient turned modern Japanese gangster. Interesting glimpses into Japanese culture and mindset that is propelled by honor or "giri". Well acted, well directed, and for me, a surprise bit of filmology from the 70's era rare for that time period
