Prior to his death at age 80 on August 31, 2006, USAF veteran Guy Gabaldon of East Los Angeles led one of the most remarkable of all American lives. The world first began to take notice of Gabaldon during July 1944, when he made military history in the battle for Saipan by capturing an estimated 1,500 Japanese soldiers and citizens without any external assistance. Following the war, the former soldier spun his heroism on that island into a successful legacy, speaking openly and frequently about his battlefield experiences and using the tale to lift others to new heights of courage and self-sacrifice, then made a series of concerted efforts to aid and mend the broken lives he encountered, such as those of dysfunctional teenagers in Gabaldon's adopted home of The Mariana Islands. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
