Das Boot ist voll (1981)

Das Boot ist voll (1981)
Member Rating:
Based on fact, The Boat is Full is set during World War II. A group of Jewish refugees desperately attempt to escape to the safety of neutral Switzerland. The problem: too many refugees, and too little room in the boat commissioned for the trip. Director Markus Imhoof is neither a polished nor a subtle filmmaker, nor is the acting of the highest calibre. This hardly matters: the intensity and sincerity of everyone involved in The Boat is Full compensates for any and all production crudities. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The characters in this movie seemed so realistic. I really felt as if I was a fly on the wall in the back country in Switzerland. Even though I speak fluent German, I had to really pay attention to some of the subtitles, as this Swiss accent can be hard to understand. The movie left you feeling incredibly sad and also angry at the Swiss for that matter. If you don't like subtitles and not a lot of action, then this movie isn't for you.

We must never, ever forget. This movie is a good reminder of a terrible time in human history.
