The plot of this of this adaptation of the Daniel Carney's novel, sprinkled throughout a series of extended Sam Peckinpah-inspired action sequences, deals with a collection of mercenary toughguys -- Colonel Allen Faulkner (Richard Burton), Lieutenant Shawn Fynn (Roger Moore), Rafer Janders (Richard Harris), Pieter Coetzee (Hardy Kruger) -- who are hired to parachute into the African bush country and abscond with deposed African president Julius Limbani (Winston Ntshona) and reinstall him as a reigning monarch of an African country, to satisfy British mercantile interests. Although this film was made nearly 30 years ago, the quality of production and cast were well done and appear quite authentic; I enjoyed it very much especially the antics of Moore and Burton together with the leads; quality films never go out of style!! 4 stars

If you are a "gun guy" then you will LOVE the firearms in this flick, lots of uzi's, FAL's ( or more accurately L1A1's ), unfortunately the rest of the flick wasnt as good.....................the acting was weak, the plot just kind of plods along, and frankly in my opinion, a much better job cold have been done in the casting of this movie, many of the caracters were so poorly cast that they were just flat unbelievable. Sooooooooo in summary, if yuou LOVE guns as much as I do, its worth the lousy acting just for the firearms alone, FAL's rule!!!!

This is a great mercenary/rescue movie. A small group of men are hired to rescue a deposed African head of state held captive by militants. The story leads us through the recruitment of the team and their ultimate betrayal at the hand of the man that hired them. Vengeance reigns supreme in this, one of Richard Burton's last movies. An all star British cast makes this a treat alone. One of the best scenes is where Roger Moore's character force feeds a drug dealer a lethal dose of his own poison. Delightfully vengeful. And Richard Burton's character gets even with the betrayer, as only a cool as ice assasin can. If you're a fan of war movies, this is a good one. The good guys don't always win, but they can get even.
