Very slow...very depressing...a definite take-off on scenes from "2001- A Space Odyssey". Just a very weird movie....I'm sure others will say its "artsy" and "deep meaning" - - and I'm sure it was both. But it was just a bit over-the-top for me personally.

I am a huge fan of both Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. They are two of our most talented modern day actors. I went to see this movie because they were in it. I have to say that it was 2 1/2 hours of pure boredom. All actors were fabulous, but the movie is pointless and slow. It attempts to deal with some heavy handed religious issues, but I cannot figure out who they were trying to reach. Know your audience should be the first step in making a movie. I doubt that this movie will ever find an audience.

The film is a phantasmagoric series of images and events, meant to symbolize one man's reflections on the meaning of life and his memories of childhood. Both praiseworthy and frustrating, fascinating and yet incoherent. In trying to be so spiritual, it becomes self-important and unreachable.
