Story and themes along the lines of Wizard of Oz and Oliver's 1850's England. Probably too scary for under 6. Chimney sweep/theif boy with a good heart falls into a creek and becomes animated for a courageous adventure to return to his "princess". Catchy songs thoughout. Creepy multi-role "good witch" character. Very interesting regional dialects and colloquialisms. Turn on the subtitles and you'll see what I mean. I'm 39 and kinda liked this little kiddie flick. I won't show it to my 2 and 4 yr olds yet. High cockalorum!

Next time some loonball laments that "They don't make family films like they used to", remind 'em of crapulence like this,After an okay "Oliver" kinda start, the film gets animated--with the quality one normally associates with a low budget Saturday morning TV cartoon from the 70's. And this one tune from the 8th level of Hades will burn itself into the hard drive of your brain, and there is no deleting it! Help me, for pity's sake! The great James Mason must have done this as a favor for his grandkids. Either that, or his home was in foreclosure. Alas, my lovely daughter kinda liked it!

Very boring first 1 1/2 hours. Cute when you get to cartoon. Only part my kids would watch. Way to advanced for kids under 12.
