Celebrated genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) conduct a clandestine experiment to create an animal/human hybrid that could revolutionize modern medicine -- if it doesn't destroy humanity first. On the heels of engineering an entirely new species of animal, Clive and Elsa become the toast of the scientific community. Their experiment begins to spiral out of control, however, when the superstar scientists introduce human DNA into the equation. When Dren is born, Clive and Elsa welcome her into the world as the next leap in human evolution. Now, the faster Dren evolves, the more her creators start to realize they may have made a catastrophic mistake. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The ultimate experiment in Playing God. I would call this movie a mash up of Frankenstein, Jurrasic park, Dracula, Alien, and the movie orphan. If you watch you will see what I mean, there are hints of all those within the movie, intentional or not. There are two disturbing sexual scenes between the creation and humans, one consensual and one not so much. The ending, although probably predictible, leaves room for a part 2 although not sure I would want to see a part two. Worth one watch but wait and see it on DVD unless you just enjoy audience reactions, then see it in the theater as there are plenty.

Could have been a good movie, kinda like Alien with a DNA splicing twist. But it really got twisted and kind perverted at the end. Walking out of the theater I thought of at least 3 different ways it could have ended better.

This movie starts off pretty good. These two scientists are working on splicing different animal genes together and decide, on their own, to throw in some human dna. So they get Dren and she is growing really fast. The bulk of the movie is just how she is developing and is pretty good. Then the last 20 min or so just gets weird and the ending is like what? So overall, I guess a pretty good movie but the ending could have been better.
