The Van (1977)

The Van (1977)
Member Rating:
A teenager tries to win the girl of his dreams with the hottest van in town in this '70s sex comedy. Bobby (Stuart Goetz) has just graduated from high school, but he's too preoccupied with girls to think much about his future. Bobby hasn't had much luck with the ladies, and he's convinced it's because of his lack of cool wheels, so after months of slaving at a car wash owned by Andy (Danny DeVito), he blows the money he'd been saving for college on a down payment on his dream machine: a canary yellow custom Dodge van, a bachelor pad on wheels complete with mirrored ceiling, 8-track stereo, television monitors, and (natch) a waterbed. Bobby turns his attentions to class hottie Sally (Connie Lisa Marie), who happens to be dating ill-tempered bully Dugan (Steve Oliver), while his buddy Jack urges him to date the more available Sue (Marcie Barkin), who's friends with his girlfriend, Tina (Deborah White). Andy uses the car wash as a front for his bookmaking business, and when a few bets don't go his way, he asks Bobby to lend him some money. Bobby gives Andy the cash he'd earmarked for his next payment on the van, but when Andy can't pay him back, Bobby's new van may be soon be in the hands of the repo man. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

NOT MUCH OF A MOVIE FOR NOW A DAYS, BUT BACK IN 1977 THIS WAS PROBABLY THE WAY IT WAS FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS. I DIDNT GROW UP IN THAT TIME, BUT COULD SEE PEOPLE WHO DID LOVING THIS MOVIE. IT IS A TIME PERIOD MOVIE ABOUT THE TEEN LIFESTYLE. SO IF YOU WERE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 16-24 AROUND 1977 YOU PROBABLY SHOULD CHECK THIS ONE OUT. IT HAS A SWEET CUSTOM VAN (A BEDROOM ON WHEELS) FOR TRYING TO GET LAID, A GOOD AMOUNT OF NUDITY (EVEN A FAT CHICK), A LOT OF FUNNY PARTS, AND A YOUNG DANNY DIVITTO. ITS THAT COMMING OF AGE STORY TRYING TO GET A GIRL - LIKE A 1977 AMERICAN PIE WITHOUT A STIFFLER FOR THE REALLY FUNNY LINES.

My parents ran a driven theater in washington state and I grew up watching these movie's. In 1977 I was12 and new more about these movies, more than anyone I new. I did hang out with the kids at that time who were 6 years older than me , due to the fact that I was there at the drive'n all the time. Now a days the drive'n is all but extinct, we do need to bring back the flair that we grew up know as the out-door movie theater and bring the fun back at sitting next to the speaker post and watching the movie. thanks again for the corney kids movies of the 70's and the 80's they are true fun..
